The Last Post

The last thing that our class had to do for our Into the Wild blog project was to do a final assessment. This had to be a creative project that has to deal with the book. I chose to draw a picture of Chris going Into the wild, which was the last time he ever saw civilization. In the picture you see Chris walking onto the Stampede trail. In the background you see the bus that Chris died at and you see the river he had trouble crossing. I thought that the picture really showed how his journey started. I am very proud of my picture, and I think it really represented me and the book.

Over Veiw of Into the Wild

This story starts out with McCandless laying outside a deserted bus in Alaska. The Author spends his time re-tracing McCandless steps for the two years the McCandless was missing. In the journey, McCandless decides to change his name to Alexander, and spends a majority of his time with a man named Wayne Westerberg while they are in South Dakota. While McCandless is in Alaska he decides he wants to attempt to climb the "Devils Thumb" He spent 112 days in the wild, living of nature and what ever plants, food, and water he could find. While doing this he kept a journal of his experiences. Krakauer, through much research, decided that McCandless must of eaten the seeds of a Hedysarum Alpinum, which is know to be an edible plant, and may also be know to others as the Wild Potato. This plant eventually killed him because it stopped his intake nutrients, and McCandless starved to death. When McCandless body was found, he weighed roughly 67 pounds.

Adventure

A Place that I have never been to and would like to visit one day is Alaska. Alaska is the setting of the book of “Into the Wild”, but also my grandparents went there for their anniversary, and they said it was fantastic and beautiful. Alaska is part of the United States even though it is not connected to the other states. Alaska’s lowest normal temperature in the winter is about -15.7 degrees, and the lowest normal summer temperature is about 36.4 degrees. Alaska is known for its cold weather, beautiful scenery, glaciers, and salmon.
If I was going to go to Alaska I would get their through a cruise ship, which is the way my grandparents went. I would go this way because, not only would I get to have a nice ride to a faraway place, I could see the glaciers up close and I would have a tour guide showing me all the best places to go, and what scenic places to see. Before I left for Alaska, I would take a lot warm clothes for the cold weather, and I would take other things like matches and power bars that I would use on hikes just in case I got lost somewhere in Alaska. While I am in Alaska I would go on hikes to see all of the views there are to see and then I would visit all the shops I could to get many Alaskan things that I could, for example a bear tooth or a fur coat. Also I would also learn make an igloo the right way, so it does not collapse, before I would leave Alaska for my cruise home to my hometown Maryland.
